Charles Dance is going from playing kingmaker in “Game of Thrones” to galactic ambassador in Syfy’s upcoming “Childhood’s End” miniseries.
The adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s 1953 sci-fi classic explores how human identity and culture slowly erode during decades of a seeming utopia on Earth triggered by the arrival of peaceful aliens called Overlords. Dance stars as the alien race’s ambassador, Karellen. He also lends an awesome creepiness to the teaser above.
Fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will recognize the British actor as Tywin Lannister, whose dreams of continuing to rule Westeros were flushed down the toilet when his some, Tyrion, killed him as he sat on the, um, throne.
Mike Vogel (“Under the Dome”) will play Ricky Stormgren, a farmer from the Midwest whose life is turned upside down when he is named the sole human ambassador for the Overlords. Julian McMahon (“Nip/Tuck”) stars as Rupert Boyce, an enigmatic American entrepeneur.
Matthew Graham (creator of BBC’s “Life on Mars” and “Ashes to Ashes”) is adapting Clarke’s work. Executive producers are Akiva Goldsman (“Lone Survivor,” “A Beautiful Mind”) and Mike De Luca (“Captain Philips,” “The Social Network”).
“Childhood’s End” will air on Syfy in December. Click here and here to read more about Syfy’s upcoming slate of shows.
