Red Nose Day kicks off in Chicago

NBC sold its first red nose in a Chicago Walgreens store recently, and now the customer who bought it, Audrey, is in the network’s first promo for its Red Nose Day fundraising event.

Audrey will never say “yes” to a Walgreens clerk again. But good on her for being so charitable! You should be like Audrey and buy a nose. Noses are available now for $1 exclusively at Walgreens stores, with proceeds helping children in need around the world.

NBC is bringing Red Nose Day, Britain’s top TV fundraising event, to America with a star-studded live special at 7 p.m. May 21. Another Chicago native, “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez, is helping promote the event. Watch the video at the end of this post to see her and other stars involved in the show.

NBC’s three-hour broadcast, Inspired and supported by Comic Relief U.K.—the British charity behind Red Nose Day—will feature stand-up comedy, parodies, sketch comedy, music performances and short films about the cause. Funny or Die is partnering with NBC to create original content for the special.

The money raised during Red Nose Day will be used to fund programs that address the immediate needs of children and young people living in poverty in the U.S. and internationally in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The charity partners are Boys & Girls Clubs of America; charity: water; Children’s Health Fund; Feeding America; Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance; The Global Fund; LIFT; National Council of La Raza; National Urban League; Oxfam America; Save the Children and United Way.
