Sarah Wayne Callies returns to ‘Prison Break’

The “Prison Break” revival has locked in another one of the series’ original cast members: Sarah Wayne Callies.

The “Colony” star returns as Dr. Sara Tancredi in the event series set to premiere during the 2016-2017 season on Fox. Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, currently co-starring in “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” already signed up to reprise their roles as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, respectively.

Spoiler alert: apparently Michael didn’t die at the end of the original series in 2009, which premiered in the fall of 2005. In the new series, Fox says in a press release, Sara has moved on with her life, raising her and Michael’s child with her new husband (guest star Mark Feuerstein of “Royal Pains”). When Sara learns Michael still may be alive, she teams with Lincoln to engineer the series’ biggest escape ever.

The new series reunites the original producing team, including series creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead, who return to executive-produce the new series, with Scheuring serving as showrunner/writer.

The original action drama “Prison Break” centered on Michael (Miller), who was determined to prove his brother, Lincoln (Purcell), was innocent of the charges for which he was convected. He attempts to save him from Death Row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape from prison.

The series will be produced 20th Century Fox Television. Scheuring, Moritz, Adelstein, Olmstead, Vaun Wilmott, Michael Horowitz and Nelson McCormick will executive produce. McCormick will direct.
