‘Sense8’ season 2 is happening

“Sense8” season 2 is a go. Netflix and the official “Sense8” Twitter tweeted a happy birthday video Saturday confirming the series has been renewed for a new season.

Happy birthday, sensates! The news comes, appropriately, on the eighth day of the eighth month—the sensates’ re-birthday. Videos also appeared on the “Sense8” Facebook page.

The series, created by Andy and Lana Wachowski (“Matrix” trilogy, “Cloud Atlas”) and J. Michael Straczynski (“Babylon 5”), explores ideas of identity, gender, sexuality and common human needs through the eyes of eight strangers who are reborn as sensates. The eight evolved humans share each other’s thoughts and emotions, and are able to use each other’s talents and capabilities.

The eight actors who play sensates—Brian J. Smith (Will), Ami Ameen (Capheus), Doona Bae (Sun), Jamie Clayton (Nomi), Tina Desai (Kala), Tuppence Middleton (Riley), Max Riemelt (Wolfgang) and Miguel Angel Silvestre (Lito)—as well as costar Freema Agyeman (Amanita), Alfonso Herrera (Hernando) and Smith’s dog, Cassie (who does not appear in the show), appear in the video sending well wishes and some making the announcement.

A Netflix spokesperson on Saturday confirmed to me the network has ordered a second season, but would give no other details.

Now, let’s hope someone releases a soundtrack featuring all the original music created for the show by Tom Tykwer, other previously released music and the cast version of “What’s Going On.”
