Fans of “The Last Ship” are going to get the post-apocalyptic story in another medium—as a motion comic book.
TNT has teamed with Madefire to create a five-part digital comic book series that follows a story arc that will lead into the Season 2 of the series, which launches with a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. June 21. The Motion Books will be available online for free and on the Madefire app starting May 29 and each Friday up to June 19.
“Madefire is proud to be a part of this never before seen chapter of ‘The Last Ship’ story,” said Ben Wolstenholme, CEO and co-founder of Madefire.
The series’ executive producers Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane worked with writer Chuck Dixon (“Team Zero,” “Seal Team 6,” “Batman”) and graphic artists Renato Arlem (“X-Men,” “Supergirl,” “G.I. Joe”) and Omar Francia (“Batman,” “Mass Effect,” “Star Wars”) to create an original story that takes place between the first and second seasons of “The Last Ship.”
Fans can get an exclusive print of the first six pages on May 2 during Free Comic Book Day at participating comic book specialty shops in the U.S. and worldwide. Go to Free Comic Book Day’s store locator to find a shop near you.
“We are incredibly excited to be working with Madefire on bringing TNT’s ‘The Last Ship’ to the dynamic world of Motion Books,” Jeff Gregor, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for TNT and TBS, said in a release. “With its suspenseful, action-packed storyline, ‘The Last Ship’ translates beautifully to the Motion Book format. This is a great way to take fans even deeper into the fascinating world of this blockbuster series.”
During the first season of “The Last Ship,” based on William Brinkley’s novel, Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) and the crew of the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James helped Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) find the original of a deadly virus that wiped out 80 percent of the world’s population. Scott created a cure and the crew got it to the U.S.
In the new season, our heroes stare down even more enemies on their mission to distribute the cure to the masses.
Also starring in the show are Adam Baldwin, Travis Van Winkle, Charles Parnell, Christina Elmore, Marissa Neitling, John Pyper Ferguson and Jocko Sims. Alfre Woodard returns as a guest star.
