Art dealers working for rival auction houses attempt to sign Sam Brukner in two new video teases for Crackle’s upcoming series, “The Art of More.”
Debuting Nov. 19 on the streaming service, “The Art of More” exposes the seedy underbelly of premium auction houses and the dealers, collectors, con artists and smugglers who corrupt it.
Dennis Quaid, Kate Bosworth, Christian Cooke and Cary Elwes star in the 10-episode first season, Crackle’s first hour-long drama. Quaid also serves as a producer.
In the first of the new teases, shown above and titled “Statue of Limitations,” powerful real estate tycoon and art collector Sam Brukner (Quaid) is wooed by young and hungry new dealer Graham Connor (Cooke). Graham has wrongly assumed he has signed Sam to his auction house by offering an impressive Buddha statue. Turns out getting Sam’s business won’t be as easy as Graham thought.
Graham’s rival, Roxanna Whitman (Bosworth), feels Sam’s wrath in the clip below, titled “Personal Accounts.” Sam is angry at her for making a deal for another collection. He tells her she’s betrayed his and questions the value of their relationship—which may involve a little pleasure along with business.
These two clips, plus the “Art of More” series trailer I wrote about previously, give viewers a fairly good peek into what goes on behind the scenes of big art auctions. Yet I think viewers will be surprised by just how far former soldier Graham and Roxanna, who was born with a proverbial silver spoon, go to earn respect in this world.
Sam, too, gets rather ruthless in his desire to stay on top. I’m looking forward to more “The Art of More.”
Chuck Rose created the series. Other executive producers include Gardner Stern (“NYPD Blue,” “Law and Order”), Laurence Mark (“Jerry Maguire,” “Dreamgirls”), Gary Fleder (“The Shield”) and Tamara Chestna.
Update: Crackle dropped a sneak peek scene Oct. 23 showing Graham using all his powers of persuasion on Sam. Here it is.
