‘Into the Badlands’ sneak: The Widow cuts a baron

The Widow makes another surprise attack in the upcoming episode of AMC’s martial arts drama Into the Badlands.

The “Sting of the Scorpion’s Tail” episode airs at 10/9c May 7 on AMC. “Into the Badlands” tells the story of Sunny (Daniel Wu), a former killer-for-hire who is trying to leave his past behind him and make a life with his wife, Veil, and their child.

In this exclusive clip provided to TV Show Patrol by AMC, the Badlands’ most unpredictable baron, The Widow, and her butterflies toy with rival Baron Hassan before she ends his life with a few well placed swings of her blade.

It’s just the latest attempt by The Widow, also called Minerva, to consolidate her power against the other barons who have carved up their own areas of and natural resources in the Badlands.

In the current season, her mission has led her to ambush attack oil fields she once owned to get them back from another baron. She gave refuge to Clippers and others when they fled their own barons.

She accepted an invitation from the other barons to iron out differences, knowing full well that they were likely to strip her of her baronship—or possibly kill her. (That didn’t go so well for the barons.)

“She never does the expected thing and she doesn’t play by the rules,” Beecham told me recently.

In recent episodes, The Widow made two of her two most surprising moves yet.

First, she forged an alliance with her former sworn enemy Quinn (Marton Csokas) after he killed his own son, Ryder (Oliver Stark), to reclaim his baronship and the lands he once held. Then, in an effort to make that alliance stick, she betrayed Veil (Madeleine Mantock) and her son by turning them over to Quinn.

But The Widow’s hopes for her alliance may be shattered when she discovers the existence of a new weapon in “Sting of the Scorpion’s Tail.”

Also in the episode, Sunny plays a dangerous game, causing M.K. (Aramis Knight) and Bajie (Nick Frost) to question his loyalty. And Quinn reveals his own plans for Veil and her son.

AMC recently announced it has renewed “Into the Badlands” for an expanded 16-episode Season 3 to premiere in 2018. The current season is 12 episodes, while the first season consisted of six episodes.

“Into the Badlands” airs at 10/9c Sundays on AMC.
