Can Amy Schumer thank Tina Fey for her latest gig?
The creator and star of “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Trainwreck” will open for Madonna during the singer’s New York stops on the Rebel Heart Tour—at Madison Square Garden Sept. 16 and 17, as well as at Barclays Center Sept. 19.
Schumer joked on Twitter that her audition for Madonna was a childhood performance of Madonna’s hit “Like a Prayer.”

Coincidentally, Fey mentioned Madonna when she presented Schumer with the prestigious Peabody Award May 31 in New York. “I really wanted to come down here tonight, in a Madonna kind of way … try to like, eat her youth and maybe suck her soul out in a very awkward, staged lesbian kiss,” Fey said at the event. You can watch the clip above, courtesy of Pivot, which will air a taping of “The 74th Annual Peabody Awards on Pivot” at 8 p.m. June 21. Whether Fey and Schumer staged their kiss is as debatable as whether the Madge mention helped Schumer nab the job. The singer’s choice to have a stand-up comic open for her is kind of surprising, although Madge may be doing exactly what Fey said—trying to attract Schumer’s younger fan base to her concerts. After the announcement Madonna tweeted: “I hope people will stay after & watch my show!”
